Make Some Fizzing Bath Bombs for Mom!

It's almost Mother's Day! Quick, grab the kids and make some fizzing bath bombs for mom (or grandmom)!

This is a recipe I developed while running summer camps at a Children's Museum for seven years. The ingredients list is per child, but the directions are for a group. Enjoy, and tell me if you made them, and how they turned out!

Moisture Rich Fizzy Bath Bomb

Makes 3 of the large heart (approx 2” by 1”) molds

Dry ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons baking soda
• 3 teaspoons Corn Starch
• ½ tablespoon Epsom Salt
• 1 tablespoon Citric Acid (whole foods bulk bin)

Wet ingredients:
• 1 teaspoon Almond oil (whole foods)
• ¼ teaspoon Water
• ¼ teaspoon fragrance oil or essential oil (whole foods)
• 1 drop of food coloring

1. You need two tables put end to end. Have all kids assemble at one end of the table with a bowl, then move down the line to get their ingredients.

2. Put all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, have them mix dry together with a dry spoon.

3. In a separate small cup you can use over and over, the teacher will measure out the wet ingredients for each child.

4. When they reach the end of the line, they hand the teacher their dry bowl. One teacher pours the wet ingredients, while another teacher holds the child’s bowl with one hand and whisks the dry ingredients with the other hand. *You MUST actively be whisking AS the wet ingredients are added to prevent fizzing. Fizzing is bad. The finished product will look like slightly damp colored sand.

5. When done whisking, give the child back her bowl and she can move down to the molding table (second table). Here, she will press the mix into the molds very tightly with her thumbs. Let the mixture sit in the molds for a minute or two.

6. Un-mold the children’s Fizzies onto name-labeled squares on plastic trays to dry. Let sit overnight. After drying through the night they are rock hard and ready to fizz for almost 2 minutes in the bath. Do not package them up before 24 hours has passed because they will stick together if packaged when “wet”.

7. Teacher work during prep time the next morning: Put each child’s fizzies in a red cellophane square and bunch up the top. Tie the top with a ribbon, curl the ribbon, add a small recipe, and name-label for take home.

Enjoy! And here is what I got for Mother's Day from #1. Love it!
