Michiko's Japanese Quilt

This was my first attempt at applique and some of the teapot pieces were less than 1/2"! I almost gave up, but I persevered. There is a teapot, tea cup and tea leaf to commemorate the tea ceremony, a lilly pad and flower to represent Japanese koi ponds, a world to show we are all one people, the ocean to represent Japan as an island and three Texas flowers to honor her life in Texas. The sashing is a grey on black koi pond print with water and fish and the back is a panel.

I took the first photo in our backyard when our koi pond was still functional and beautiful. Now, not so much!

Sorry about the quality, I scanned them in from hard copies (those were the pre-digital days). Enjoy

Erin's Baby Hearts Quilt

Hello All,
Today i'm featuring another heart quilt! Yes, I realize I do a LOT of heart quilts, but when people commission one from me, they tend to pick that pattern! This one was commissioned by my friend Erin for her friend Erin's baby. The heart pattern is very subtle in the fabric Erin picked out, but I think it turned out beautiful. Click on the photos to see them large to really appreciate the fabric. Take care!

Lydia's Flying Geese Quilt

Today i'm featuring a flying geese quilt I made for my sister Heidi's daughter, Lydia, wayyyyyy back in 2001. These photos (except the one with the girls) were actually taken this week, so it's nice to see that my workmanship held up! Holding up nicely also is the flannel from Hobby Lobby that I used to make it. This was very early on in my love affair with fabric and I hadn't yet met quilt shop fabric. Lol, maybe my love of designer fabric is misplaced if this flannel is such a performer!
This is one of my top five favorite quilts I have ever made and i'm proud to say that Lydia has loved the heck out of it. Heidi reports that over the years it has been with her through thick and thin, in sickness and in health, and she still loves it.

Go ahead and visit heidi's shop to see her cool minkee items for sale!

Grammy Allie's Bowtie Quilt

Here is a sweet little wallhanging I made for my mil by request. She wanted all reproduction 30's fabrics, so this is what she got! I always have to make one mistake per quilt though, and the mistake on this one was putting the hanging sleeve about four inches from the top on the back. It makes the top of the quilt droop over the rod! I should have put it one inch from the top. Oh well, next time I'll know.

Amy Butler Fabric Giant Heart Quilt

Here is a quilt I just completed for my sister heidi to give to her highschool friend Dale as a wedding present. Heidi bought all the fabric and I hand pieced it. All the fabric is Midwest Modern by Amy Butler. In the photos i've got it all pinned to send to her so she can hand quilt it! Don't judge it by the wrinkliness, it's a monster of a quilt, probably a king size, and I've had to do a lot of work with it on the floor!

I love the words on the 108" wide backing! So appropriate for a new marriage. Click on thumbnails to see all full size.

Enjoy!

I already showed off the cute non-holiday pot holders I made, now here are some I made for Christmas presents! It was a lot of fun. My friend Sarah of prettybirdpress took these photos with her Iphone before she took them home for Xmas. Enjoy!
