Starry, Starry Night

So did the title of this post make you think of the famous painting or the famous song by Don McLean? If you click the link to the song, it's actually an analysis of the lyrics compared to Van Gogh's life, very interesting!

But i'm not here today for a fine art lesson, i'm here to introduce the new quilt i'm working on! I keep a bunch of photos of quilts I've found interesting over the years, just in case I want to make them someday. My younger stepson Corey is having a baby now and picked this photo out of my files. I searched the internet for hours trying to figure out who made it or where I got the photo, and no luck, even on flickr, so if you recognize the quilt, speak up and I will give credit!!!

I don't use patterns when making quilts, so it was fun trying to figure out the measurements, considering if you look closely, it's not really pieced in rows. I just used a 5" measurement per unit to get the measurements I wanted, for example I counted the corner small square at 5" and the long piece next to it at 5X10". I'm going to piece it in chunks, starting in the middle.

I'm really loving the cute little stars i'm making! I love the twinkly yellow one...

And the apple dots star...

But I want to know your honest opinion of the star above. What do you really think? Just tell me the first thing that comes to mind. Click to enlarge and maybe that will help you form an opinion. lol.

Best for last....my favorite. Japanese froggies dancing in a flower circle with Park Slope yellow green goodness. That's Corey, Ashley and the baby dancing. Love it! Which one do you like?

I love your stars, really georgous, and my first thought about your question was, it looks like waves, and really wonky, coz of the pattern, oh and there are little cute mushrooms, didnt recognize them at the beginning

Not sure of the pattern. Cute quilt though:) The star u asked about looks lost to me in the blue. Not enough of a contrast. I dig the fantastic part:)It would be a PERFECT spot for a photograph!
Have fun in your creation!

This is going to make such a cool quilt! I really like the blue and green points on the "It's Fantastic" block, but I think the center gets a little lost.

I like the It's Fantastic one the best; I like that it's asymmetric, and even tho there 's a lot of motion on the edges, the center is still

I tried to look up the writing on the right, but realized it's a French Rotary cutter board!! does that give you any hints? Maybe it's from Oh Fransson? she has a french name!

This quilt is going to be wonderful!!

I remember seeing that inspiration quilt too... but no clue where.

If I look close, the quilt is pieced in rows, it's just that the rows have multiple sections. Preplanning, that all. But it is far more exciting to piece the stars!

With regards to your question, I would say that block works. It seems crooked, but that might just be the movement from the background. It will probably be fine when placed with the rest of it.

Hello, I just found your blog. What lovely work you do.

I like your stars!

I love the wonky stars. I'm thinking that maybe the backgrounds need to be more like colors because my eye is too drawn to the dark blue, then I loose the star. Either mostly lights or mostly darks. Maybe it's too much contrast??

Love that quilt on the top and it looks as if you are on your way to making one much like it. I love the way it is quilted too.

what a great inspiration quilt!

Your blocks are coming along beautifully too.

I think the fantastic one looks like waves and clouds.
