Cherry Sherbet Baby Quilt

 Hello Quilters,

Hope you're all having a great extended weekend! Today I have to show a cherry red version of the lime sherbet quilt I made for my friend Cari. This one is a commission for a very special baby. Click each photo to enlarge.

You can see the grey elephants, hedgehogs and kawaii animals with balloons, all imports from Japan. There's also a Joel Dewberry bird and Heather Ross fish (times two) and weiner dog.

You can see the back here, flannel, like the red on the front. Satin binding with one corner left open for little fingers.

These are my two favorite blocks. Heather Ross from the mermaid line and Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail eating blackberries. I tried a smaller needle to see if indeed I got smaller stitches and I did! Enlarge and check out my tiny quilting stitches. Well, tiny for me, anyway!

Cheers!

Constellation - Heather Ross Quilt Continues

I've been off work, and will be this whole week, so the constellation of stars is growing! Click to see them better. Check out those seagulls! The big one is 20" but it's not the biggest I've got planned. I've got a couple of 30 inchers coming.

Amazing how quickly the day goes by when I'm supposed to be cleaning the house, but instead I'm quilting. I'd make a terrible stay at home mom!

Merry Xmas and enjoy.

Quilt Festival Entry - Finn's Quilt!

Hello All and welcome to my blog! I do everything by hand, I don't own a machine. So feel free to browse the completed quilt gallery on the left side of my blog for more hand made goodness!

For the Fall Quilt Festival, I'm featuring a quilt I made last month for my friend and boss, Angela (no blog). It's an all Heather Ross wonky square quilt, with gnome cornerstones and a pieced back. Above is Finn with the quilt!
Here are the front and the back, click to see bigger - they really do look better bigger!

And in case you're wondering who's back there holding it, it's this guy:

When I was quilting it, I got the idea to put in a small quilting detail on every block. Here I circled the mom and boy (that's Finn and Angela), the girl on top of the VW (that's Avery) and the man throwing the ball to the dog (that's Scott and Bailey the dog). The whole family! Minus the cats and ferret, of course. Click to enlarge.

On this one, I highlighted a fish - can you see the highlighting?

And here, a gnome.

It's hard to see, but on this one I wrote the baby's name. I quilted it instead of putting on letters like I usually do, since I'm now superstitious about "shouting" the baby's name on a quilt until he's older. This is more like a whisper so you don't alert bad luck that he's here. Click the photo to read the name.

Here's a closeup of the back so you can see the quilting better. Thanks to Chen for the idea to add white strips around the brown. I didn't add a detail to the ones on the back as they were quilted over.

Enjoy and thanks for visiting!

Matching Onsies

My friend and co-worker Sarah wanted to make some onesies for Finn to go with his wonky squares quilt from my previous post. I made the little blocks and she used her machine to sew them on. Cute, huh? Click the photo to see them bigger.

The super talented Sarah transferred a font stencil and then hand embroidered an F on the right hand one - wow!

If you remember, I outlined a detail on the quilt in the VW print where Angela and Finn were the mom and son holding hands. I included that part of the picture in the four patch as well to echo the quilt. So sweet! Thanks Sarah!

Does Anyone Like Heather Ross???

Of course you do! Silly question! Here's a look at the fabrics my wonderful boss/friend Angela bought for her soon-to-be-born baby boy. She didn't even think about fabric until she met me and now she's a Heather Ross collecting fool like the rest of us!

I can't wait to start making her some strippy and wonky squares out of these! These are just the selvages so I can mix and match colors easily, but I recently started keeping selvages too for a someday project.

So....what do you think? Cute???

Sorry for the poor quality of the photo, the lighting was bad. Double click for a better view!

The Sweetest Thing

Look what my sister made for Gigi! Is this not the sweetest little quilt you have ever seen? I love the Heather Ross banana seat bikes, I love the fish, and I love love love the border flower print. I also love the super soft minkee on the back and the silky binding. I love the perfect size, one foot square, for taking along in the car seat as a soother. My sister is so talented! Check out her etsy site to see what other stuff she's doing, and be sure to click on the photos above to see it in all it's gorgeous glory!

Quilt Block Potholders

Here's a cute idea, make your friends quilt block potholders! I just bought heat proof batting at Hobby Lobby for like $2 a yard, made a few blocks and voila, easy presents. I included the front and back of each one because I like the backs kind of more than the fronts!
I used fabric by Amy Butler on all three (see if you can find them!), fabric by Jennifer Paganelli on the cake and the heart, fabric by Robert Kaufmann on the cake, and fabric by Heather Ross on the star.

Luca's Baby Nine Patch Quilt

Hello again,
I've so enjoyed seeing where everyone is visiting from on my locomap that I am inspired to post more often! Today I'm featuring a quilt comissioned by a friend of mine named Erin for a friend of hers. It's just a simple nine patch but I really like how the quilt turned out. I like the watery blue fabric next to the fish, I like the yellow/blue color scheme and I love the extra soft flannel for the back. I only use the highest quality quilting fabric from quilt stores, and I feel like the finished product really reflects that. This quilt is so much more snuggly in person!
