Almost done! I just need to get to the quilt store to add some green to the top and bottom to make it a bit bigger and more rectangular. Like it?

This heart's for you. Happy Thanksgiving!

Giant Amy Butler Heart Quilt Finished!

Two finishes in one week is pretty darn amazing here in the land of 'I don't own a machine'!
I'm pretty proud that I got Finn's quilt and this one out the door in the same week. My sister asked me to make this one as a sister to this quilt.

Now I have to start on quilts for twin boys for their birthday coming up, and also one for MY bed! Imagine that...keeping a quilt I make. Huh. Never occurred to me.

Here's my 24 year old Heather and my six year old Wolf helping me pin the quilt. He's sure helping a lot, hey?

This thing is a monster! When you're hand piecing, it goes on forever.

Here is a closeup, but it's upside down. I tried to turn it around but it looked funny. The blocks are hearts.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

And this is just the CENTER of the top!

Ok, I forgot how big this quilt is! It's been a while since I made its twin. This is just the center of the top, I still have to put on a 3 inch border of white strips and a TWELVE-inch border of Amy Butler Wallflower in blue around that! It's a monster. I hope my sister likes it!

Giant Quilts and Fabric Closets

Hello All! I'm making progress on Heidi's giant heart quilt - 19 blocks so far. Here they are on the design wall. I cranked out most of these on the couch at Grammie Allie's house last weekend.

All of my fabric is finally folded and in the Bergsbo cabinet! They are all folded using a six inch ruler so they are all the same size. The only ones missing are my vintage feedsacks. A few years ago I went through a feedsack phase, which is when I made the one inch hexagon GFG quilt. I'll get those out tomorrow and do a whole post filled with feedsack love. For now, click to enlarge and enjoy the flannels on the bottom left, the designer fabrics across the middle and the other quilter's cottons across the top. I color sorted the designers but not the others so far - I just left those grouped according to what phase I was going through: Asian, batik, kitty cat, etc. Oh yeah, ignore the picture frames on the left side, that's my Bachelor's, my Master's and my museum certificate I need to hang up in here.

Here are a few stacks of my designer fabrics and the few selvages i've just started cutting. But my green stack hides a secret! Shhhhhhh....

This room is oddly shaped so I had to put the cabinet on this wall, and it had to go over the light switch. So my super handy DH cut a hole in the back of the cabinet for the switch! That's why that top fabric is smoothed down in the middle, from me reaching over it for the light. By the way, if anyone within an hour of Austin, TX needs a good, honest plumber, send me an email!

Here are the first two blocks for my sister's requested heart quilt. She wants it to be similar to the last one I made her. What do you think?

My Favorite Quilt - Blogger's Quilt Festival

Over at parkcitygirl, I've joined the Quilt Festival! When you join you're asked to showcase your favorite quilt, so here is my favorite quilt. This is the Heart in a Heart quilt I made for Gigi. It's my favorite because I made it while her heart was still beating inside me - she's the little heart and I'm the big one. It also has extra significance because she came right on the heels of my sad baby story so I was giving her some luck for her heart to keep beating inside me!

Here are some more photos of the quilt. Click to see them bigger and enjoy!

Erin's Baby Hearts Quilt

Hello All,
Today i'm featuring another heart quilt! Yes, I realize I do a LOT of heart quilts, but when people commission one from me, they tend to pick that pattern! This one was commissioned by my friend Erin for her friend Erin's baby. The heart pattern is very subtle in the fabric Erin picked out, but I think it turned out beautiful. Click on the photos to see them large to really appreciate the fabric. Take care!

Amy Butler Fabric Giant Heart Quilt

Here is a quilt I just completed for my sister heidi to give to her highschool friend Dale as a wedding present. Heidi bought all the fabric and I hand pieced it. All the fabric is Midwest Modern by Amy Butler. In the photos i've got it all pinned to send to her so she can hand quilt it! Don't judge it by the wrinkliness, it's a monster of a quilt, probably a king size, and I've had to do a lot of work with it on the floor!

I love the words on the 108" wide backing! So appropriate for a new marriage. Click on thumbnails to see all full size.

Enjoy!

Charity Hearts Quilt

I made this glowing little quilt for a charity raffle for a colleague of mine. Ours is a large organization, so I didn't know her family, but I heard they were having a tough time. I was happy I could help in some small way since I have neither money nor time to help in any other way. I'm just glad being quilters allows us these small opportunities.

I love the fabric in this one, it just glows! Click on the photos to see it up close.

Quilt Block Potholders

Here's a cute idea, make your friends quilt block potholders! I just bought heat proof batting at Hobby Lobby for like $2 a yard, made a few blocks and voila, easy presents. I included the front and back of each one because I like the backs kind of more than the fronts!
I used fabric by Amy Butler on all three (see if you can find them!), fabric by Jennifer Paganelli on the cake and the heart, fabric by Robert Kaufmann on the cake, and fabric by Heather Ross on the star.

Big Baby Heart Quilt

Hello All,

Today i'm showcasing the first heart quilt I made for my baby. Check out the second one featured in my very first post on this blog! The second one is my favorite quilt out of all of those I've ever made.
This one was the first one I made for her, before she was born, but decided it was too big for a baby and I would hang it on the wall until she was a little older. I really liked choosing the princess fairy fabric for the borders and all the scraps for the blocks. She loves to stand on the hope chest and check out all the fabrics.
I double dog dare you to click on the photo of Gigi and not be bowled over by the cuteness!!!

Gigi's Heart of My Heart Quilt

Here is my first baby quilt posting - A quilt I made for Gigi called "Heart of my Heart". I made it when I was pregnant with her to symbolize her heart beating inside of me. She is the heart of my heart! Here are some more photos of the quilt with Gigi when she's a little older.
